The Trouble That Scoliosis Can Cause
If your child has been diagnosed with scoliosis, there are lots of frustrating and painful conditions that it can cause. However, being diagnosed makes them one step closer to getting treatment, and possibly preventing further pain and suffering. There are thousands of children that will be diagnosed with scoliosis each year. If you notice any of the signs of scoliosis in your children, such as having an uneven gait or an abnormal spine curvature, the best thing to do is to have them examined by your physician as soon as possible. If left untreated, it could become worse and as a result, even harder to treat.
Our spines are the foundation of our strength, and are elegant and complicated structures. From the back, your spine forms a straight line all the way from the base of your neck, down to your tailbone. From the side, the spine looks like an elongated S shape, bowing outward at the upper back area and showing a slight inward curve at the lower back. If anything throws off this delicate balance, your child could begin walking with a lean to one side, one of their hips could appear higher than the other hip, their shoulders could become uneven, one of their shoulder blades can become prominent than the other, and they could experience severe fatigue because of the stress placed upon the body.

As stated before, if you notice any of these signs in your child, you should have them tested as soon as possible. If it gets worse, scoliosis could cause your child’s spine to twist or even rotate. These can happen in addition to the curve they had before. This can cause one side of the ribs to stick out much further than the other side, throwing your child more off balance and causing symptoms such as severe back pain and even a difficulty in breathing normally. Unfortunately, the children and teenagers who are afflicted with scoliosis are at the age where they are painfully aware of their appearances. They are also aware of how their peers perceive them, and anything that could make them stand out in a negative way, such as scoliosis, could go on to cause them a lot of emotional distress. The sooner they can be diagnosed and treated, the better.
